South Caribbean private tour in Martinique

South Caribbean tour - history and beautiful scenery
A tour around the western side of the island combining tradition with beautiful landscapes : visit either la Savane des Esclaves heritage site or La Pagerie museum, stop at the quaint fishing village of Anses D’Arlet, where it’s also possible to stop for a swim and snorkeling and admire the Diamond Rock in le Diamant.
La Pagerie is the birthplace of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the empress of France and Napoleon’s wife. At the old plantation, set in a garden, you’ll find a small museum with her personal objects and other items from the period.
La Savane des Esclaves is a heritage site and an outdoor museum teaching about medical plants and the island’s history, from the Amerindians to the abolition of slavery. Your guide will take you through the lush garden where reconstructed Carib and slave huts bring history alive.
The tour then takes you through Trois-Ilets, stopping shortly to see the old church where Empress Joséphine was baptized and also the Anse à l’Ane beach, and then through a winding forest road to Anses D’Arlet. This is a small village with old wooden houses and a beautiful church by the seafront facing a pier. A short stop for some pictures and optionally, a swim and/or snorkeling to spot tropical fish in the coral reef, and if lucky, turtles and starfish! After this, we drive up to the Morne Larcher mountain for a view on the spectacular Diamond Rock, a small volcanic island in the sea. We finish with a visit to the Cap 110°, a memorial site dedicated to a sunken slave ship.
